Mumbai: Actress Bhumi Pednekar says the Bollywood industry has changed slowly and steadily, and women are not objectified as much as it used to happen few years ago.

Talking to UNI, Bhumi who was in the town recently, said,'I think there is a very welcome change that has happened slowly and steadily in the Bollywood industry.''We are not objectified as much as we were few years ago. I am very happy that I am part of the cinema that has come up during this change. So our audiences should and must support films that are driven by women, if you think the content is good,' Bhumi said.

'People should support female directors, female actors. There is such a welcome change among the men around us. It is very nice that people are acknowledging that there is a gender bias in our society,' she said. The actress says 100 percent it is a great time for the female actors to work in the industry.

On what types of films interests her, Bhumi said,'I am an actor and my main job is to entertain people. I believe that entertainment should come with a certain amount of story and responsibility.'

'So that's the kind of cinema I want to do that makes you laugh, takes you to a different time and makes me happy and satisfied,' she said.Whether Box Office number affects her, Bhumi said it does.

'I feel I am very lucky have done well at the box office. So yeah it's important because if your film doesn't reach out to people there is no point of making the film. There needs to be some kind of recognition. And if it is a combination of critical appreciation and box office numbers, I think it's amazing,' she said.

Talking about socially relevant issues, the 'Shubh Mangal Savdhan' fame actress said,'There are lot of things that I have been working for since I was a child.''Something that I strongly feel about is climate change. There are lot of things that come with the lack of water, resources are depleting. So climate change is something I am very passionate about,' she said.

Telling about her future projects, the 28 years old actress said,'My next film is 'Sonchiriya' which is directed by Abhishek Chaubey. It stars, Sushant Singh Rajput, Manoj Bajpayee, Ranvir Shourey. It is a beautiful story.'Currently, Bhumi is doing a Netflix show titled 'Lust Series' which will have stories by directors like Zoya Akhtar, Karan Johar, Anurag Kashyap and Dibaker Banerjee.(UNI)
