Mumbai: Actor Akshay Kumar and several others connected with the 2016 film ‘Airlift’, have been served legal notice by Hanif Modak and Viraf Kekobad-owner of the shipping firm and captain of merchant vessel, respectively.
Mr Modak, who owns Oyster Ship Management Pvt Ltd and Mr Kekobad, the captain of the merchant vessel ‘M V Safeer’ were crucial players in shipping the Indians trapped in Kuwait during the 1990-91 Gulf War.
The above-mentioned rescuers asserted that the reason for serving the legal notice pertains to a “wrong” sequence in the movie, where it is shown, that they charged money from 722 Indians in lieu of transporting them to Dubai.
The makers of the film have tarnished the reputation of the shipping company hence they are liable for paying Rs 300 crore in compensation, read the legal notice.
To corroborate their claim of rescuing the victims without accruing monetary benefits, the plaintiff showed a ‘letter of Appreciation’ issued to them by the Union Ministry of External Affairs.
The plaintiff has demanded apologies from the lead cast as well as the makers of ‘Airlift’. (UNI)
