Anil Kapoor to feature in Hollywood

Mumbai: After winning accolades for ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ and the Indian TV adaptation of the US series ‘24’, Bollywood actor Anil Kapoor will now be seen in the the adaptation of Michael Faber's novel, trade sources said.Amazon has cast the versatile actor in its pilot ‘The Book of Strange New Things’.Anil will play the role of Vikram Danesh, the authoritative head of the base on Oasis, in the drama.

Based on the cult-hit novel from Michael Faber, the drama follows a priest, who is sent into space to help found a new colony, but what he ends up discovering, not only puts his faith to the test, but life as we know it.

The pilot will be written by Matt Charman, who is also the executive producer, alongside Andy Harries (Strike Back) and Lila Rawlings of Left Bank Pictures.Kevin MacDonald (The Last King of Scotland) will direct the pilot, a co-production of Amazon Studios and Left Bank Productions.
The actor has earlier won accolades for his role in Danny Boyle’s ‘Slumdog Millionaire’.

He also starred opposite Tom Cruise in 2012’s Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol and in the Fox series ‘24’ as president of the fictional Republic of Kamistan.The actor also acquired the remake rights to 24 and adapted it for Indian TV.The drama was the most awarded Indian television show of 2014 with 32 nominations and 16 wins, including the Indian Television Academy Award for best actor for Kapoor’s portrayal of the lead role of Jai Singh.(UNI)
