The trailer for the upcoming Tamil-language fantasy action film Kanguva was unveiled on this Monday on YouTube. Animal antagonist Boby Deol stole the show with his dark and rustic character. The makeover gave glimpse of notorious 'Kalkeya' of Bahubali who launched an attack on Mahishmati with his lion sized militia.
Directed by Siva and produced by Studio Green and UV Creations, the film features Suriya, Bobby Deol, and Disha Patani in their Tamil film debuts, alongside Natarajan Subramaniam, Jagapathi Babu, Yogi Babu, Redin Kingsley, Kovai Sarala, Anandaraj, Ravi Raghavendra, and K. S. Ravikumar.
Originally announced in April 2019, the project faced delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic and other commitments of the lead actors. It was relaunched in August 2022 under the title Suriya 42.
Principal photography commenced that month and concluded in January 2024. The film was shot in various locations including Chennai, Goa, Kerala, Kodaikanal, and Rajahmundry.
The film is noted for its significant budget, estimated at 300–350 crore, making it one of the most expensive Indian films to date. The technical team includes Devi Sri Prasad as music composer, Vetri Palanisamy as cinematographer, and Nishadh Yusuf as editor. Prasad's soundtrack, which marks his fifth collaboration with Suriya and second with director Siva, features the first single "Fire Song," released on 23 July 2024, coinciding with Suriya's 49th birthday. The film's music rights were acquired by Saregama.
Kanguva is slated for a worldwide release on 10 October 2024, coinciding with Dussehra, and will be available in standard, 3D, and IMAX formats.
