CBFC Clears ‘Rahu Ketu’ With U/A 16 Certificate After Multiple Cuts Including Kantara Scream

The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has granted a U/A 16 certificate to the upcoming Hindi film ‘Rahu Ketu’, subject to several modifications, including the removal of a sound effect popularly associated with the film Kantara.

According to reports, the Examining Committee directed the makers to replace visuals showing drug consumption, such as sniffing and snorting, with more suitable shots across the film. The Board also objected to the use of an obscene hand gesture and instructed that the raised middle finger be digitally altered to a pinky finger wherever it appears.

In addition, all references to alcohol brand names were ordered to be removed. The filmmakers were also asked to submit an authentication letter for the Sanskrit shloka used in the film. Among the notable changes, the CBFC directed the replacement of the “Kantara film music (voom) scream,” as reported by Bollywood Hungama.

After the makers complied with the required changes, the CBFC cleared the film on January 12. As per the censor certificate, Rahu Ketu has a runtime of 139 minutes and 40 seconds (2 hours, 19 minutes and 40 seconds).

Backed by Zee Studios and B-Live Productions Pvt Ltd, the film is produced by Umesh Kumar Bansal, Suraj Singh and Varsha Kukreja. Rahu Ketu reunites Pulkit Samrat and Varun Sharma after the success of the Fukrey franchise. Notably, Vipul Vig, who wrote Fukrey (2013), Fukrey Returns (2017) and Fukrey 3 (2023), makes his directorial debut with this film.

Pulkit Samrat, Varun Sharma, Chunky Panday and Shalini Pandey recently promoted Rahu Ketu at the Bollywood Hungama OTT India Fest and India Entertainment Awards 2025.

Speaking at the event, Samrat said that since the release of the first Fukrey film, he and Varun Sharma have received numerous offers to work together but chose projects carefully despite lucrative deals. He added that Rahu Ketu gave them the chance to collaborate again in a world very different from the Fukrey universe, describing the film as a larger, more fantastical narrative.
