'Entertainment ki Raat' is fun format with lot of scope for anchor: Saumya Tandon

'Entertainment ki Raat' is fun format with lot of scope for anchor: Saumya Tandon

New Delhi: Whether it is the role of Kareena Kapoor's sister 'Roop' in blockbuster movie 'Jab We Met' or 'Anita' aka 'gori mem' in TV serial 'Bhabhi Ji Ghar Par Hai', Saumya Tandon has created a niche for herself in both the industries.
Saumya, who is currently hosting 'Entertainment ki Raat' Season 2 on Colors TV, told UNI in a conversation that the show is a fun and spontaneous format, where the anchor has much more scope than just announcing and getting the judges' verdict.

''When Entertainment Ki Raat came my way, I thought I was missing the stage, mike and anchoring. Also, it's a fun format, where the anchor has much more scope than just announcing and getting opinion of the judges. It was much more spontaneous and I had not done a interviewing format, which I think is an interesting thing to do,'' she opined.

Asked which medium she likes the most- Bollywood or TV, the versatile actor said, ''Well, I feel Indian Cinema at this particular point in time is very exciting in our country, because it is still experimenting with the content, new talent, new directors and different kind of actors, I would say.

''Television unfortunately has not moved ahead, so Indian television I would say is in kind of limbo, where not lot of exciting things happening, but in Indian films a lot of exciting things are happening. So yes, I feel at this particular point of time, Indian cinema would be a better place to be in,'' the actress said.

''Having said that it doesn't really matter whether it's TV or film, as long as content is good. I will be very very happy to do television, if the content is very good,'' she said.
On web medium, Saumya said it is a brilliant platform.

''I think it's a brilliant platform. Everything or mostly everything is now digital and web series are gaining major popularity. I would love to be a part of a web series and I'm sure when I get the right offer I will take it up,'' she said.

''Like I said being an actor, I would not be bothered about the medium as much as I would be bothered over quality on the medium, because the medium is something, which is not in really in my hand. What the struggle for me as an actor would be a part of a really good content whether its web, TV, or films,'' Saumya said.

''It's a very good trend as web is coming up in India though I feel its in very very nason stage where makers are not been able to understand what Indian audiences or what Indian net users would want on web. There is a lot of experimentation happening in that space. It's still very very early and nasson to really say where its going to go.

''But, it's a very good trend, its good for actor to explore different kind of things, its much more challenging, there are much more job opportunities, and if something very interesting comes up, I would definitely like to do it,'' she said.Whether she thinks that web medium will bring a loss to the TV world, Saumya said it poses a huge competition to TV.

''In fact with smart TVs, people prefer watching even TV shows at their leisure and there is much more variety on web then on TV. It's a great trend since more competition will mean more choices for people and this will be good for actors,'' she said.

If she thinks women are still objectified in the industry, Saumya said, ''Well, women are objectified! That's it. Whether in this industry or another, the main point is the mentality hasn't changed and that is one of the biggest fights we fight.

''Oh definitely yes, we are objectified in our society, we are objectified even in films that's very very true and these are something which we I or you can't fight at our own level, but yes we can in a small way and we do also. "'But to be really honest, we need to change as society. I think, unfortunately we are a still a society, which is a male-dominated society, we are still a society, where we like women bashing in our comedy, where we want to objectify women,'' she said.

''There are lots of stereotype when it comes to woman, a beautiful woman is dumb, a woman is always supposed to put her head down and agree to what husband said, a good girl is always plain jane, who always is obedient to her mother-in-law, father-in-law and parents she never suppose to have her own mind because any woman who is strong having her own mind is a vamp.

''These type of stereotype of course we have. Slowly and very very slowly there is content, which is fighting, which is coming out with heroine which are bolder, happier fun, in fact what I am playing, is very very vivacious. Of course things are happening, but we have a very long way to go,'' she said.

Saumya said she would love to work with Aamir Khan.''I like Aamir's choice of scripts and admire his work,'' she said.Talking about the films that she will be seen next, Saumya said, ''If I get a good role with a script I will sign a film.''

On future projects, Saumya said, ''Well right now, there is not a single day to spare juggling between one fiction and non-fiction show. So as of now, my hands are full.''(UNI)
