'Forbidden' focus on honour killing of women

New Delhi: Actor Salony Luthra who will be seen in a dramatic thriller 'Forbidden', says she hopes the movie will ignite a social change that will compel the legal system to take action against criminals who commit violence against women in the name of family honour.'Forbidden' is based on the true story of a girl, who was born and raised in New York and a doctor by profession who lost her life at the young age of 25.
The movie is set to be an eye-opener across international film circuits, which highlights the evil practice of honour killing in the western world. ''Forbidden' is a true life love story of a very courageous girl born and raised in New York City who paid the price to follow her heart. The issue of honour killing is not just a third world problem as they call it but it is present everywhere across borders, religions and sections of the society,'' she said.
 
''With this film, I only hope and pray that I have been able to do justice to this courageous girl's life story and many other girls who have been victims to honour killing. The mission of this film is to end violence against women living outside of their native countries. In addition, it is to ignite a social change that will compel the legal system to take action against criminals who commit heinous crimes against women in the name of family honour,'' Salony said.
 
Salony Luthra who has consistently wowed the audience and critics with her compelling and brilliant performances plays the main character in the film.According to findings by the Women's Advocacy Group, 20,000 women and girls are killed every year in the name of honour killing. ?
 
Reports submitted to the United Nations Commission on Human Rights show that the brutal practice has occurred in at least 26 countries of which nine are Western nations with large immigrant communities, including the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Germany. 
 
'Forbidden' is Salony's second film to be screened at the New York Indian Film Festival. 
She has had two of her films being premiered back-to-back in New York and in the festival circuit, first being 'Kajal' and now 'Forbidden', both where she plays central strong female characters.Apart from Salony Luthra, the film also stars Gulshan Grover, Gopal Divan and Dhanish Karthik.(UNI)
