Bengaluru:Justice G Narendra of the Karnataka High Court on Tuesday ordered the government to ensure adequate security to theatres and to the film goers during the release of film actor turned Politician Rajnikanth's movie 'Kaala' in the state.
Following recent remarks by Mr Rajnikath against the Karnataka Government on Cauvery water sharing issue and demanding release of Cauvery water as per Supreme Court direction by Mr Rajnikanth, the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) President Sa Ra Govindu on May 30 stated that the Distributors and theatre owners will not allow screening of 'Kala' in the State.
Wunderbar Films, the producer of Kaala in a petition filed in the High Court pleaded for lifting the ban, had stated that it is the fundamental right under the Constitution to exhibit the film. "CBFC has issued a certification under Section 5B of the Cinematograph Act, 1952, for the release of 'Kaala' after following due process and adhering to all guidelines. After receiving such a certificate, it is the fundamental right of the petitioner under Article 19(1) of the Constitution to exhibit the film."
After Mr Rajnikanth's statement on Cauvery issue, the pro-Kannada organisations expressing their protest had demanded ban on his and Kamal Hasan's movies henceforth in the State. Vattal Paksha leader Vatal Nagaraj threatened to launch statewide agitation against screening of 'Kaala'.(UNI)
