Oscars 2024: Late Indian art director Nitin Desai honoured in 'In Memoriam' segment - WATCH

New Delhi: At the 96th Academy Awards, the 'In Memoriam' segment honoured several individuals from the entertainment industry who are no more, including Indian art director and producer Nitin Desai.
 
Desai is known for his work on iconic films like "Lagaan", "Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam", "Bajirao Mastani". His last film was Ashutosh Gowariker's directorial Panipat.

According to the official Instagram account "the academy", the 'In Memoriam' segment paid tribute to the late Nitin Desai, a renowned art director known for his work on iconic films like "Lagaan" and "Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam." Desai's legacy was celebrated alongside that of other industry legends.

According to PTI, Nitin Desai was found hanging at the N D Studios in the Karjat area of Raigad, located about 50 km from Mumbai, the police said. According to the report, his death indicated financial struggles, with his studio facing challenges such as a fire incident and creditors attempting to take possession due to unpaid debts.

The 96th Academy Awards took place on Sunday at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, California.
 
Christopher Nolan's film 'Oppenheimer' dominated the Oscars ceremony, securing major wins across categories.
 
Cillian Murphy, portraying J Robert Oppenheimer, claimed his first Oscar for Best Actor, dedicating the honour to peacemakers worldwide. Nolan received the Best Director trophy, expressing gratitude to the cast and crew.
 
The biopic, set during World War II, not only won Best Film but also Best Original Score, highlighting its overall excellence.
 
Additionally, Robert Downey Jr. clinched his first-ever Oscar for Best Supporting Actor in his role as Rear Adm. Lewis Strauss. The film's success continued, with Florence Pugh, Emily Blunt, and an ensemble cast contributing to its triumph.
 
Elsewhere, 'Zone of Interest' secured the Best Sound award, while 'What Was I Made For' from 'Barbie' won Best Original Song. Ryan Gosling's captivating performance added a spark to the ceremony.
 
Amidst the celebration, Mstyslav Chernov, director of '20 Days in Mariupol,' addressed the Ukraine conflict, expressing regret for making the film and urging an end to the violence.
 
'Oppenheimer' marked its presence with 13 nominations and emerged victorious in six major categories, solidifying its place as the standout film of the Oscars 2024.
