Chennai: The first look of the multilingual epic historical fiction drama "Ponniyin Selvan: 1" is finally here.

The makers treated fans to the spectacular first peek into the Mani Ratnam magnus opus.

Working in the shadows without generating much hype, Mani Ratnam grabbed the Internet by storm, especially with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan making a mega comeback to the silver screen.

After more than 70 years, Kalki Krishnamuthi's beloved Tamil novel is finally being adapted in the grand scale production.

Besides directing, Mani Ratnam is also co producing with Allirajah Subaskaran under the banner of Madras Talkies and Lyca Productions.

Mani Ratnam co wrote the script along with Elango Kumaravel and B Jeyamohan.

Grammy winner A.R Rahman has given music for the film that will be released in five languages.

The story is a fictional account of Rajaraja 1 of the Chola dynasty set in the 10th century.

Just a look at the posters is enough to give an idea of the production quality and intensity of the movie with it so far looking equal parts rough, tough, intense, epic and beautiful.

With an allotted budget of Rs 500 crore, this is the third most expensive Indian film to be ever made, exceeding only 2.0, which had a budget of Rs 575 crore.

Madras Talkies announced the release date of the film on their Instagram handle: “Wishing our Producer Allirajah Subaskaran a very happy birthday! The Golden Era comes to the big screens on Sept 30th!"

The first look posters feature Aishwarya Rai Bachchan as Nandini, Vikram as Aditya Karikalan, Jayam Ravi as Arulmozhi Varman, Karthi as Vandhiyathevan and Trisha as Kundavai. The movie will be released in Tamil, Telegu, Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi. (UNI)
