Bengaluru: Renowned writer, actor, movie director and the recipient of Jnanpith award for Kannadak, the highest literary honour conferred in the country, Girish Karnad passed away on Monday morning.
He was 81 and was ailing from respiratory related problems.The deceased was a contemporary writer, and contributed in a big way to the Kannada as well as Indian Theatre.
Karnad, was born in 1938 in Maharashtras Matheran, had his elementary education in Uttarakannada and Dharwad district in Karnataka and had also worked as a visiting professor in Chicago University.
The Indian government had also conferred Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan for his immense contribution to the Literary, Theatre and Cinema world.
Karnad, was a household name in the world of Theatre and his 'Tughlaq' the best loved play, had translated in various languages including English and established it as one of the best playwrights in the country.(UNI)
