New Delhi: Veteran Bollywood actress Saira Banu is celebrating her 79th birthday on Wednesday.
Saira was born on August 23, 1944, and her mother, Naseem Banu, was a renowned actress in her time.
Saira spent her childhood in London but returned to Mumbai in 1960 after completing her studies.
She met producer and director Sashadar Mukherjee, who recognized her talent and introduced her to his younger brother Subodh Mukherjee.
Subodh was looking for a new actress for his film "Jungle" and offered Saira the lead role, which she gladly accepted.
Saira gained recognition for her performance in the film, alongside Shami Kapoor.
She went on to star in several successful movies, including "Bluff Master" in 1963 and "I Milan Ki Bela" in 1964.
In 1966, Saira married actor Dilip Kumar, and despite her marriage, she continued to act in films.
In 1967, she had the opportunity to work with Raj Kapoor for the first time in the movie "Deewana," which was a big hit. (UNI)
