Kolkata: Movie maker Gautam Halder, whose debut directorial cinema "Bhalo Theko" in which Vidya Balan made her entry into the filmdom, passed away in a city hospital following a massive cardiac arrest on Friday, official sources said.

They said the film maker and actor breathed his last at private hospital early today.

His debut directorial film " Bhalo Theko" in 2003 also received many accolades as well as the national prize in which Vidya Balan made her entry into the entertainment industry. He also made Nirvan where Rakhi Guljar was the lead actress in 2019.

Graduated from Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Centenary (V.C.) College, Rahara.Goutam Halder was also an Indian theatre actor as he was a member of the theatre group Nandikar and performed in plays like Sesh Sakkhatkar, Football, Pheriwalar Mrityu, Meghnadbadh Kabyo and Borda.

Among many of his successful undertakings, Sojon Badyiar Ghaat must be named. Meghnad badh kabya is a completely different genre of theater where Goutam Halder's solo performance was based on music, poetry, movements and dance. Then he started another group, Naye Natua, and staged Meghnadbadh Kabyo, Borda Borda (A story by Munshi Premchand), Jaal (written by Shirshendu Mukhopadhyay),Thakurmar Jhuli, Haoai, Othello and Moimonsingha Geetika. He has acted in the title role of the play Sakharam produced by Prachyo.

Gautam Haldar’s debut film Bhalo Theko offered an alternative philosophy, an ideology other than the materialistic philosophy of a competitive, careerist existence. He achieved this through the central character Anandi (Vidya Balan in her debut role) who loves nature, poetry, music, much more than she cares about the fiery ambitions of her scholarly boyfriend.

Her world is defined by commitment to her family, and is filled with the chirping of birds, the blooming of flowers, the planting of a sapling that blooms into a tree, with music practiced by her uncle (Soumitra Chatterjee) and with nostalgic journeys into a past dominated by an extremist older brother who disappears into the night and never comes back.
