"Why do you dub your films in Hindi then?": Ajay Devgn reacts to Kiccha Sudeep's ‘Hindi no more a national language' comment

, Wednesday, 27 April 2022 (17:29 IST)
Mumbai: In a complete "out of character" reaction by Bollywood's "Singham" Ajay Devgn on Wednesday slammed southern star ‘Makkhi’ actor Kiccha Sudeep for apparently belittling importance of Hindi language.

Ajay took to Twitter to say, "@KicchaSudeep my brother, according to you if Hindi is not our national language then why do you release your mother tongue movies by dubbing them in Hindi? "Hindi was, is and always will be our mother tongue and national language. Jan Gan Man."

The strong vibes coming from the tweet at a time when Ajay has just made his debut in southern languages seemed out of much angst and at a time when we have seen a range of movies from the south being dubbed in Hindi or even been remade.

Ajay was part of SS Rajamouli's "RRR" also starring Alia Bhatt, NTRJr and Ram Charan.

Within 20 minutes Ajay's tweet was trending with nearly 3,250 likes and 850 comments.

One user said: "But Hindi is not national language..it's govt official language along with English."

Another user tried to calm Devgn down saying his reaction to Sudeep's comment in an interview, might have been misunderstood by the "Golmaal" star: "Our mother tongue is Kannada. They didn't say that. You misunderstood. The language we speak in Karnataka is Kannada."

She was echoed by another user, who said: "My mother tongue is Marathi. Hindi is not our national language Jai Maharashtra Jai Hind."

Sudeep was reacting to KGF 2 being called a pan-India film, in a video that has since gone viral after the weekend, he said: "You said that a pan India film was made in Kannada. I'd like to make a small correction. Hindi is no more a national language. They (Bollywood) are doing pan-India films today. They are struggling (to find success) by dubbing in Telugu and Tamil, but it's not happening. Today we are making films that are going everywhere.”

This comment came after mammoth success of Yash starrer "KGF 2" at the box office, that has left many shocked and surprised. The Prashanth Neel directorial was being immensely praised across the country, including in Bollywood.

After "RRR", "KGF 2" success, Ram Charan also appeared proud of the fact that south cinema was being talked about throughout the country. (UNI)
