Encounter ensues in Kashmir

Srinagar: An encounter ensued between militants and security forces in south Kashmir district of Pulwama this morning, official sources said here. On a tip-off about the presence of militants, security forces and Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police launched a joint search operation at Batnore Lassipora in Pulwama.

However, when the security forces were sealing the area, militants attacked them with automatic weapons. Security forces also retaliated ensuing an encounter. Additional security forces have been rushed to further tighten the cordon to foil any militant attempt to escape, the sources said. Security forces have also been deployed in the nearby areas to prevent any demonstration by locals, the sources said, adding that details were awaited. (UNI)
