New Delhi:India on Tuesday registered a record 56,211 new cases of COVID-19 during the past 24 hours, pushing the country caseload to 1,20,95,855.The country witnessed 271 deaths, mounting the death toll to 1,62,114, as per the Union health ministry update.
The active cases rose by 18,912 to stand at 5,40,720. It is now 4.47 per cent of the total caseload.The past 24 hours saw 37,028 people recovering from the deadly virus, taking the total recovery count to 1,13,93,021, which is 94.19 per cent of the case tally. The fatality rate stood at 1.34 per cent.
Meanwhile, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said that a total of 24,26,50,025 samples have been tested so far for coronavirus. Out of this, 7,85,864 were tested in the past one day.On the vaccination front, a total of 6,11,13,354 vaccine doses have been administered, with 5,82,919 vaccinated in the last 24 hours.
Maharashtra in the grip of COVID-19
Meanwhile ,during the past 24 hours total 31,643 fresh cases of COVID-19 were registered across in the Maharashtra state, bringing the total number of infections in the state to 27,45,518.
The state also registered 102 more deaths, taking the death toll to 54,283.Meanwhile, a total of 20,854 patients recovered and were discharged, taking the total number of recoveries to 23,53,307 across the state.
The state's recovery rate currently stands at 85.71 per cent and the fatality rate is two per cent.
At present there are 3,36,584 active patients across the state undergoing treatment at different COVID-19 centres and hospitals, they added.
Seven districts of Maharashtra's Marathwada region registered 3,861 fresh cases of COVID-19 during the past 24 hours, and 63 more deaths were also registered, health authorities informed here on Tuesday.
Details from all the district headquarters collected by UNI show that out of the eight districts of the region, Aurangabad was the worst affected where the highest ie 1272 cases and 26 deaths were reported, followed by Nanded with 1098 new cases and 19 deaths, Jalna registered 370 new cases and eight deaths, Parbhani had 392 cases and six deaths, Latur had 393 cases and three deaths, Hingoli had 97 cases and a single death and Osmanabad 249 cases and single death.(UNI)
