New Delhi: For the third time in the last 10 days, India crossed the milestone of over 1 crore vaccination in a day on Monday, data from the CoWIN portal showed.

The country has administered 1,02,17,844 doses till 8 PM while the vaccination drive is still underway in many states. Earlier, on Tuesday, August 31, the country had administered over 1.28 crore doses of Covid-19 in a day, the highest single-day vaccinations so far.

This be the third time that India crossed the magic figure of a 1 crore vaccination in a single day. The rare feat of over 1 crore jabs was earlier achieved on August 31 and August 27 as well.

Two states--Uttar Pradesh and Bihar-- aided with a special vaccination campaign. While UP has contributed 29,19,626 vaccination so far in a day, Bihar has administered 16,06,321 so far on Monday, the CoWIN showed.

On August 27, India administered over one crore vaccine doses in a day, a feat which no other country has been able to emulate yet, a senior official from the union health ministry. “It’s like vaccinating the entire population of New Zealand twice,” he added.

India then went ahead and broke its own record within five days by administering 1.28 crore, the highest so far.

As per the health ministry’s data shared on Monday morning, India’s Covid-19 vaccination coverage has surpassed the cumulative figure of 68.75 crore (68,75,41,762), according to the union health ministry. (UNI)
