COVID-19: India reports 42,766 new infections in last 24 hrs, active cases cross 4 lakh mark

New Delhi: India logged 42,766 new COVID cases and 308 deaths in the last 24 hours, the Union Health Ministry said on Sunday.

The daily positivity rate of the infection rose to 2.45 per cent in the country while the active cases have crossed the 4 lakh mark after 4,367 more cases were added to the tally in the last 24 hours, as per the health ministry's bulletin.

The active caseload now stands at 4,100,048. The share of active cases now stands at 1.24 per cent of the total Covid-19 cases, the figures showed.

According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Kerala and Maharashtra are driving 75 per cent of the total active cases.

The latest addition has pushed the cumulative case tally to 3,29,88,673 whereas the death toll has climbed to 4,40,533, according to the data.

Meanwhile, 38,091 more people recovered from the Covid-19 in the last 24 hours making the recovery registry climb to 3,21,38,092. As per the data, the recovery rate is now reduced to 97.42 per cent.

The Ministry stated that the weekly positivity rate (2.62 per cent) has been under 3 per cent for 73 days now.

A total of 53,00,58,218 samples were tested up to September 4, 2021, for Covid-19. Of these, 17,47,476 samples were tested on Saturday, according to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR). (UNI)
