The Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB) has announced the Class 10 and 12 results, but students may have to wait around a week to receive their original mark sheets. This year, the board has introduced major changes to the design and security features of the mark sheets. The new format is expected to resemble the modern and professional style used by the CBSE board.

According to board secretary R.R. Vyas, key changes have been made to the size of the mark sheet, the addition of QR-code-based security, and the format in which student names are displayed.

To strengthen security, the traditional hologram system will now be replaced with a QR code. By scanning the code, student details can be verified online, making it extremely difficult to create fake mark sheets. The board has also decided to discontinue the yellow security film and hologram previously used, despite the older system receiving appreciation from foreign representatives in the past.

A significant change has also been made in the way names will appear on the mark sheet. Earlier, the surname was written first, but now the student’s first name will appear before the surname. In addition, the student’s name, father’s name, and surname will be displayed separately under different columns or headings. Officials believe this change will especially benefit students applying for higher studies or jobs abroad, where clear identification of first and last names is important.

Meanwhile, the changes have also sparked controversy. Allegations have surfaced that the Gandhinagar board revised the tender rules three times for the lamination work of mark sheets and certificates. Questions are being raised over whether the selected agency was approved without proper verification of its machinery and infrastructure, leading to discussions within academic circles.
