Who had killed Krishna?

Who had killed Krishna?

Aniruddha Joshi "Shatayu"

The great war of Mahabharata was over. Yudhishthir was being crowned in a spectacular coronation ceremony. Suddenly Gandhari rose up and began to curse Krishna. She was of the opinion that Krishna was solely responsible for the war and subsequent demise of all her children. She cursed that the way Kauravas vanished from the face of earth, Yadukul or the clan of Krishna too will meet the similar fate.

Krishna had resigned to Dwarika of Prabhas Kshetra after the war. Once Satyaki and Krutverma had a heated argument over the relevance of war. An enraged Satyaki beheaded Krutverma. This unleashed a furious conflict between Yaduvanshis, who split in two different fractions and indulged in a fierce war against each other. However, Yaduvansh did not cease to exist in its entirety after that. Almost all of Yadavs were killed, but Babhru and Daruk remained alive, and they subsequently kept the Yadukul running afloat.

But Sri Krishna and Roma's death has its own share of legends. It is said that after making Dwarika his home, he gave up his mortal form near Somnath in Prabhas Kshetra. He was saddened by the demise of his clan. One day he was retiring under a Pipal tree. A hunter called Jara, who had mistaken him for a dear, shot an arrow. The arrow pierced his feet. This is said to be the reason for his death.

But who was that hunter called Jara? Puranic beliefs have it that he was actually Bali of Treta Yuga. Lord Rama had killed him when he was fighting with Sugriva. Rama had shot an arrow at him from his hideout. In Dwapar Yuga, this same Bali became Jara hunter and shot an arrow on Krishna from his hideout. It is said that the incarnation of Vishnu, Lord Krishna actually chose for himself a similar death that an another incarnation of Vishnu Lord Rama had chosen for Bali. It is called an another “Leela” of the Leeladhar Sri Krishna.
