Warsaw: A 29-year old Dutch tourist was detained and later fined for making the Nazi salute at former Auschwitz-Birkenau death camp's site in Poland, the media reported on Monday.

The woman made the gesture in front of the Arbeit Macht Frei (Work Sets You Free) gate, BBC reported. She was later charged for engaging in Nazi propaganda and imposed a fine.

This is not the first time foreign tourists were detained in charge of promoting Nazi propaganda in Poland. In 2013, two students from Turkey were awarded six months jail term, suspended for three years and levied fine for similar act in Auschwitz.

In Oswiecim, Nazi Germany had made the death camp after occupying Poland at the beginning WWII in 1939. In just over four-and-a-half years, Nazi Germany systematically murdered at least 1.1 million people at Auschwitz. Almost one million were Jews, BBC said in its report.

During the Nazi campaign to eradicate Europe's Jewish population, Six million Jewish people were killed. In early 1945, the camp was liberated by the Soviet troops. (UNI)
