Mexico City: Five decapitated bodies were found Sunday morning inside bags by a roadside in west Mexico's Jalisco state, local authorities said.
According to a statement from the Jalisco State Prosecutor's Office, the bodies, all male, were found individually wrapped in black plastic bags next to another one that "apparently contained the heads of the victims," whose ages have not yet been disclosed.
The Jalisco Institute of Forensic Sciences and Forensic Medical Service are in charge of autopsies, while the Special Regional Prosecutor's Office of the 3rd District in the town of Lagos de Moreno is overseeing the investigation, the statement added.
A similar incident occurred in February in the same region, where the Jalisco New Generation Cartel operates. Active in more than 20 states around the country, the cartel is considered to be Mexico's largest criminal organization.
