Halima is known to have made herself seen in the industry by wearing a hijab to big fashion shows including the one for Kanye West’s Yeezy.This act of the model had left everyone praising her step to bring modesty into fashion. She made the announcement of her departure from the industry on her Instagram stories.
She claims to have forgotten her true self when she wore the kinds of outfits not suitable for muslim women that led her to come to this conclusion.She posted pictures of herself from various fashion shows and then wrote “I canonly blame myself for caring more about opportunity than what was actually atstake”.
Opening up on Instgram she wrote that the pandemic gave her enough time to ponder upon her values. “Being a hijabi is truly a journey of highs and lows”, she said.Aden has received a lot of support online from her fans and even people in the industry.
Halima’s modeling career began at the age of 18 when she first appeared at the Miss Minnesota USA pageant and went on to be one of the semi finalists at the competition. She was approached by IMG models at that time.
She has walked for the big brands in the industry including Rihanna’s Fenty Beauty and even thanked her for letting her wear a hijab at the set. Halima Aden was born to Somali parents in a refugee camp and later moved to America at the age of 6.
Aden says she has had to compromise her values and beliefs during her career that she wasn’t comfortable with. She brought the hijab to the runway but that’s not only what is expected of a muslim woman. She has rethought all of her mistakes for which she only blames herself.
