Jakarta: Sukmawati Sukarnoputri, daughter of first Indonesian President Sukarno, has officially converted from Islam to Hinduism.
According to a report by Detiknews, Sukmawati underwent the ritual of converting to Hinduism in Bali on Tuesday on the occasion of her 70th birthday.
The ceremony was held at the house of Bung Karno's mother, Ida Ayu Nyoman Rai Srimben, in Buleleng, Bali.
The core ceremony of 'Sudhi Wadani', carried out by Sukmawati, was held at Merajan (Pura) Dadia Pasek Baleagung Buleleng.
"Sukmawati Sukarno, who today officially has the Balinese name given by the penglingsir, namely she is named or titled Nia Sukmawati," said the person in charge of the ceremony, Arya Wedakarna.
Sukmawati is the third daughter of first President Sukarno and younger sister of ex-President Megawati Sukarnoputri. (UNI)
