Justin Timberlake's arrest was on tip-off from hotel insider

New Delhi: American singer, songwriter, producer and actor Justin Timberlake's recent arrest for driving while intoxicated (DWI) was reportedly prompted by an anonymous tip from someone within the hotel where he was staying.

The "Cry Me A River" singer was arrested on June 17 just after midnight in Sag Harbor, Long Island, where he was residing at the American Hotel.

According to a complaint obtained by local media, the 43-year-old ten-time Grammy winner claimed he had only consumed "one martini", the Independent.uk reported.

Timberlake addressed the incident at a concert last week, acknowledging it had been a "tough week".

New reports suggest that the arrest may not have been random, but instead followed a tip-off to authorities about Timberlake's drinking.

A Southampton restaurateur, who wished to remain anonymous, disclosed to the UK publication that the caller had informed the police to monitor Timberlake if he attempted to drive.

The local businessman expressed his belief that Timberlake was "mistreated", noting that the singer is a regular in the Hamptons and is always recognised and approachable.

The restaurateur also doubted the officer's claim of not knowing Timberlake's identity, stating, "If you live in America, you know who Justin Timberlake is."

No comments were available from police on the officer's behaviour.
