Rickshaw drivers in Nangarhar told not to transport gunmen other than Taliban

Kabul: Taliban authorities in eastern Nangarhar have asked the province's rickshaw drivers to not transport any other gunmen other than the Taliban or their affiliates, in an apparent move to curb growing terror attacks by the Islamic State-Khorasan outfit.

Nangarhar’s provincial office in a statement asked the drivers in the province to give them a hand in ensuring the security of the province and ordered them to prevent transporting other gunmen.

The statement also asked the people of Nangarhar to cooperate with them and inform them of any suspicious activities in rickshaw taxis.

Though the statement did not name any specific group of militants, it was most likely aimed at the ISIS-K fighters who have reportedly become more active in the eastern provinces of Afghanistan in comparison to other parts of the country.

The statement comes in the wake of a massive increase in the number of targeted killings which has caused worry among local residents.

Residents from Nangarhar have reported that they have often seen gruesome sights of people either hanging from trees or bodies thrown in a ditch with their heads chopped off early in the morning, but have no clue about either the victims or the perpetrators of the crime. (UNI)
