Sri Lanka: Woman develops labor pain while in queue for passport, delivers baby

Colombo: A Sri Lankan woman delivered a baby after developing labour pain while standing in a queue to get a passport issued in her name, it was reported on Thursday.

The 26-year-old woman had joined the winding queue at the Department of Immigration and Emigration overnight on Wednesday. A large number of Sri Lankans are now seeking passports so as to leave the country in search of work abroad.

Security personnel told the Daily Mirror that she developed labour pain and was rushed to the Castle Hospital where she delivered the baby.

Doctors were quoted as saying that the baby girl and the mother were sound and healthy. (UNI)
