Mogadishu: About 60 al-Shabaab militants are dead after an airstrike in north-central Somalia, the US said in a statement Tuesday. It is the largest toll from a strike this year.
"This precision airstrike was conducted in support of the federal government of Somalia as it continues to degrade al-Shabaab," said a report in QNA quoting US-Africa Command.
"Airstrikes reduce al-Shabaab's ability to plot future attacks, disrupt its leadership networks, and degrade its freedom of manoeuvre within the region," it added. No civilians were killed in the attack near Harardere, the US said.US forces are partnering with African Union troops, AMISOM, and the Somali National Security Forces in combined counterterrorism operations in the troubled East African nation.(UNI)
