Pyongyang: As North Korea continues to register continuous increase in Covid-19 cases, leader Kim Jong Un chaired a large state funeral held for a top military official.
Korean Central Television broadcast video footage of over 1,000 military officers and soldiers attending the farewell for Hyon Chol Hae, marshal of the Korean People's Army and general adviser to the Ministry of National Defence, who died last Thursday, Kyodo News Agency reported on Monday.
At the funeral, Kim was seen without mask.
According to Yonhap, over 167,650 people showed symptoms of fever, with one additional death reported, over a 24-hour period until 6 pm the previous day, the official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported, citing data from the state emergency epidemic prevention headquarters.
With new cases, the North has recorded a total of over 2,814,380 Covid cases.
The death toll has risen to 68, with the fatality rate at 0.002 per cent.
On May 12, the North confirmed its first-ever Covid-19 case in over two years.
The North's authorities had also ordered a strict national lockdown after the first case of suspected Covid-19 reported in the country.
