Etawah (UP): The management of the historic Kali Vahan temple, located on the bank of Yamuna river and associated with the Mahabharata era, has implemented a dress code for the devotees coming to the temple to offer prayers.

As per the notice issued by the management devotees wearing half pant, bermuda, mini skirt, night suit and torn jeans will not be allowed entry inside the temple premises. Only those coming in traditional attires will be allowed entry.

Chief priest of the Kali Vahan temple Sachin Giri on Friday said that in the era of fashion, all people, be it women or men, have started wearing their clothes in a modern way.

"The influence of western culture has become so dominant that youth can generally be seen in different types of dresses. Women or men wearing similar dresses are seen in malls, markets, picnic spots, restaurants, hotels," he said.

He said that now the temple administration has warned and banned the entry of those who come to visit temples wearing such clothes. He said that after implementing the dress code, the temple management has put up posters in the temple premises, in which it is clearly written that devotees wearing half pants, bermuda, mini skirt, night suit and torn jeans won't be allowed to enter the temple premises and worship.

Giri said that the temple management has requested all the devotees to wear modest clothes. "Our culture says that we should enter the temple fully clothed," he said.

He said that every Hindu should follow the rules according to his culture. "This is a warning for both men and women. Those who read this will guide their family and relatives. The way boys and girls come wearing half pants, torn jeans, is not right. Women should come to the temple in saree or suit," he said. (UNI)
