The Legend of Kharmas

The origin of Kharmas is linked to a mythological story involving Surya Dev (the Sun God) and his seven celestial horses. Legend has it that Surya Dev's horses, who tirelessly pulled his chariot across the cosmos, grew weary from their arduous journey. To provide them with rest, Surya Dev temporarily replaced them with a pair of donkeys (khar), slowing the pace of his celestial journey. This period of slower cosmic movement is believed to be inauspicious for worldly activities, hence the name Kharmas.
