Puri: The Simhadwar police on Saturday detained a lady from Poland and her accompanying Hindu friend for entering the Sri Jagannath temple.

According to reports, temple servitors spotted a white lady among the crowd of devotees entering the temple near Baisi Pahacha. They stopped her for questioning when she stated she was from Poland.

The servitors handed her over to the Simhadwar police, who are examining her passport and other travel documents.

Her Hindu friend is also being questioned by the police. They pleaded ignorance about the prohibition of the entry of non-Hindus into the temple.

The police are verifying the genuineness of their identity. They have been allowed to stay in their hotel until the verification is completed, the police said.
