3 army men injured in Kupwara gun battle

At least three army men, including an officer, were injured and a Pakistani were killed in an encounter close to the Line of Control in Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir, officials said here on Saturday.

The exchange of fire took place in the Kumkari area of the Machil sector in Kupwara.
It is not yet clear whether it was an infiltration bid or Border Action Team (BAT) action.
While the Army said that two soldiers have been injured in the firing incident in the Machil sector, it said that one Pakistani person has been killed in the incident.

“There has been an exchange of fire with unidentified personnel on a forward post in Kamkari, Macchal Sector, on the line of control. One Pakistani person has been killed, while two of our soldiers have suffered injuries and have been evacuated. Operations are in progress,” Army Srinagar-based Chinar Corps said in a post on X.

The encounter along the LoC took place a day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi issued a stern warning to Pakistan and said Indian soldiers will crush terrorism with full force and the enemy will be given a befitting reply.This is the fourth encounter in Kupwara in the last fortnight.

In the earlier three encounters, six militants suspected to be foreigners and a soldier were killed.Two days ago, Army Chief Gen. Upendra Dwivedi visited forward areas in Kupwara and reviewed the security situation along the LoC.(UNI)<>
