3775.73 kg fire crackers seized in Delhi, 88 held

New Delhi: The Supreme Court ban on fire crackers in the national capital improved the air quality slightly, while also leading to a seizure of 3775.73 kg of sparklers and arrest of 88 people in this connection, the police said on Friday. Majority of the Delhiites followed the apex court's direction and decided to celebrate the festival of lights- Deepawali by making colourful rangolis and buying new clothes. However, some traders and shopkeepers tried to go ahead with their plan of selling the crackers, by hook or by crook, which landed them behind the bars from 12 areas across the city.
 

North Delhi reported highest number of 15 arrests, followed by 14 in northeast, 13 in Rohini and 12 arrests in South Delhi,while South and Central Delhi registered the lowest arrests of three each, a statement issued here said. The highest amount of 959.36 kg was recovered from Rohini area, followed by 435.5 kg in southwest and 431.37 kg in northwest area of Delhi. Lowest amount of 63.85 kg was reported from central Delhi, followed by 109.73 kg in the Outer area. Though 10 areas recorded equal number of FIRs and arrests, Southeast Delhi registered 11 FIRs and 12 arrests, while Rohini recorded 14 FIRs, followed by arrests of 13 people. (UNI)
