42-yr-old man gets 10 yrs RI for repeated rape on his disabled teenage niece

Palghar: A 42-year-old labourer from Boisar of the district was on Monday convicted and sentenced to ten years rigorous imprisonment by the district court for repeatedly raping his disabled teenage niece in 2014.Additional public prosecutor S B Sawant told the court that the accused took his 14-year-old niece, who is also physically- and mentally-challenged, to his room at Dandipada and raped her on several occasions till July 2014.

The accused was tried under sections 376(2),(F),(I),(J),(L) and (N) of Indian Penal Code as well as sections 3, 4, 5(k)(l)(n) and 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act of 2012. Relying on the prosecutor's arguments, Additional Sessions Judge S S Gulhane awarded the punishment to accused Vijay Sakharam More and also imposed a fine of Rs 1,000 on him. (UNI)
