Amid uproar over trainee doctor’s rape and murder in Kolkata, a 15-year-old girl was gang-raped in the premises of the government-run Mahatma Gandhi Hospital at Jodhpur in Rajasthan.
The police have detained two suspects.
DCP (West) Rajarshi Raj Verma said the incident occurred hours after the girl left her home in anger on Sunday evening after being scolded by her mother. When her parents could not locate her till late Sunday night, they filed a missing report at the Soorasagar police station.
On Monday afternoon, police discovered the survivor near the canteen of Mahatma Gandhi Hospital. She was taken to Soorsagar police station, where she recounted her ordeal. She said that two individuals lured her with food and took her to a secluded area within the hospital premises, where they raped her.
The police reviewed CCTV footage from the hospital, identifying the accused as contractual sanitary workers at the hospital and they have been detained.
The girl was sent for a medical examination on Tuesday (Aug 27), which confirmed the rape.
A case of gang rape under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act has been registered.
