All convicts of Nirbhaya case to be hanged on Mar 20

New Delhi: A Delhi Court on Thursday issued fresh death warrants of March 20 at 0530 hrs for execution of all four convicts in the brutal gangrape and murder case of a 23-year-old physiotherapy intern.

 
The girl, who came to be known as Nirbhaya, was gangraped and savagely assaulted in a moving bus in South Delhi area on December 16, 2012. She died a fortnight later in a Singapore hospital.
 
Additional Sessions Judge Dharmendra Rana had, on February 17, third time issued fresh death warrants of March 3 at 0600 hrs for the execution of the convicts - Mukesh Kumar Singh (32), Pawan Kumar Gupta, Vinay Kumar Sharma (26) and Akshay Singh (31) and later on March 2, deferred the execution till further orders, as the mercy petition of one of the convicts Pawan was pending before the President. 
 
The Government Counsel submitted that the mercy plea filed on behalf of Pawan, has been dismissed by the President, so new fresh death warrants may be issued in the matter. 
The court, after hearing the submissions on March 4, issued notice to the convicted and fixed for hearing on Thursday.
