New Delhi: The Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), a marketer of milk and milk products under the brand name of Amul, has increased the price of fresh pouch milk by Rs 2 per litre from June 3, 2024.
"The increase of Rs 2 per litre translates to a range of 3-4% increase in MRP, which is much lower than average food inflation. It is worthwhile to note that since February 2023, Amul has made no increase in prices of fresh pouch milk in major markets," GCMMF said in a statement.
The milk cooperative said that the price hike is being done due to an increase in the overall cost of operation and production of milk.
"Our member unions have also increased farmers’s prices approximately by 6-8% over the last one year," it said.
Amul noted that, as a policy, it passes on almost 80 paise of every rupee paid by consumers for milk and milk products to the milk producers.
"The price revision shall help in sustaining remunerative milk prices for our milk producers and encourage them to increase milk production," the statement said.
New rates
The Amul Gold half-litre pouch will now be available at Rs 34 against Rs 33, while the one-litre pouch will be sold at an MRP of Rs 68 against Rs 66.
Similarly, Amul Cow Milk’s half-litre pouch will be sold at Rs 29 instead of Rs 28, while its one-litre pouch will be sold at an MRP of Rs 57 instead of Rs 56.
