New Delhi: A team of Delhi Police have arrested another accused in connection with the Republic Day violence at the Red Fort complex, police said here on Wednesday.

Thirty-year-old Maninder Singh was nabbed by a team of the Special Cell of the Delhi Police for his involvement in the violence during the tractor rally organised in protest against the three new farm laws passed by the Centre.

According to an official of the Special Cell, Singh was wanted in the case of rioting at the Red Fort on January 26 and was arrested on Tuesday evening.  They found two swords from his house at Sindhi Colony in Swaroop Nagar.

Singh, the official said, is a car mechanic by profession and also runs a school to train people on how to fight with swords.

Before Maninder’s arrest on Tuesday the police had already arrested actor Deep Sidhu, Sukhdev and Iqbal Singh in this case.

The Delhi Police had announced a reward of rupees one lakh to anyone who could give them information about Deep Sidhu, Gujraj Singh, Gurjyot Singh and Gurjanth Singh.

Besides it had announced a reward of rupees 50,000 for information about Jajbir Singh, Buta Singh, Sukhdev Singh and Iqbal Singh.

On January 26, in opposition to the three farm laws passed by the Centre, several farmer unions had taken out a tractor parade in Delhi demanding that the three ‘black’ laws be withdrawn by the government.

During the parade, there were violent clashes between the farmers and the police when some of the protesters managed to breach the barricades and reach the Red Fort and climbed the rampart and hoist religious flags.

The Delhi Police had registered 44 cases with regards the violence that took place on January 26 and has so far managed to arrest 143 people accused of participating in the violence. (UNI)
