Jehanabad: At least seven people, including five women, were killed and more than one dozen sustained injuries in stampede at Baba Siddhnath temple in Makhdumpur of the Jehanabad district in Bihar on the last Monday of Sharvan month.
District Magistrate Alankrita Pandey said that seven people were killed and more than one dozen sustained injuries during the stampede at Baba Siddhnath temple. Those injured were admitted to a local hospital, while bodies were sent for a postmortem, DM added.
She said that efforts are being made to identify the victims, who include five women and two men.
Pandey denied any administrative lapses in the incident and said that adequate numbers of security personnel and magistrates were deployed to regulate the flow of devotees. She said that the injured are being treated at the local government hospital.
The DM said that a scuffle between the devotees and the shopkeeper is said to be the reason for the stampede on the stairs of the temple.
Devotees had gathered in large numbers since the early hours to pay obeisance at the temple on the occasion of Somwari during the auspicious Shrawan month when the incident took place.(UNI)
