A bizarre case of superstition came to light from a village in Mathura district of Uttar Pradesh. A teenager died after snake bite, but his family covered his dead body with cow dung with a hope that he would come back to life.
According to Amar Ujala news report, 11 year old boy Mayank was bitten by a snake while sleeping at home in Mittholi village on Sunday night. The boy did not realize it due to deep sleep and his condition worsened in the morning.
The family took him to a private doctor. The doctor treated the teenager, but his condition did not improve. So, the doctor asked the family to take him to the city hospital.
The family took the boy to a hospital in Aligarh, where the doctors declared him dead citing snake bite. The family suspected that there was a snake in the room where the boy was sleeping and started looking for the snake. They catch one snake.
The villagers told the family that Baigir (quacks) can make the boy alive. The family called one Baigir (quack) who advised them to bury the dead body of the boy in cow dung to bring him back to life.
The boy was buried in cow dung for about two and a half to three hours and a crowd of villagers gathered to see the ‘miracle’. However, the boy could not get alive. Now the family has taken his body to another Baigir living in Jewar.
