Bengaluru: The BJP has claimed that supporters of Congress candidate Nasir Hussain shouted 'Pakistan zindabad' slogans after his victory in Rajya Sabha elections in Karnataka and wanted police action against them as per the law.

Hussain is one of the three Congress candidates who won the Rajya Sabha elections in Karnataka during the day.

BJP MLC Ravikumar and party chief whip in state Assembly Doddanna Gowda Patil alleged that Hussain's supporters shouted 'Pakistan Zindabad' slogans at Vidhan Soudha after the returning officer declared Hussain's victory in the Rajya Sabha polls.

They alleged that it was done at the instigation of Hussain.

"Shockingly this incident has happened brazenly and openly within the legislative secretariat of Karnataka and the premises of the assembly of a state in India," they said.

"The act of shouting Pakistan Zindabad slogans in the premises of the Karnataka legislative assembly is a criminal act punishable as per law.

"We request you to immediately file a criminal case against Nazir Hussain and all his supporters, failing which serious action will betaken for supporting the national traitors," said a complaint filed by Ravikumar and Doddanna Gowda Patil.

Supporters of Hussain claimed they were shouting 'Nazir Saab Zindabad' which has been misinterpreted as 'Pakistan Zindabad' by some BJP leaders.

The two BJP legislators said shouting of slogans of 'Pakistan Zindabad' took place in front of media TV cameras, and "without carrying a doubt about the consequences".

The complainants alleged that it amounts to criminal conduct and offences, punishable under the Indian Penal Code for which Hussain and his supporters are liable to be punished.

It also shows that under the present Congress government, there is no safety and protection for Indians and the state of India within its legislative premises, they stated.

The said offences are punishable under Section 153-A of the IPC for acts prejudicial to the maintenance of harmony and punishable by imprisonment of three years for which Hussain and his supporters are liable to be punished, the complainants said.

Further, the slogans are intended to cause a breach of peace and are punishable under 503 and 504 of the IPC. The complainants said it is an open insult to the national honour and an offence against the Integrity and sovereignty of India.
