New Delhi: Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Monday while reacting sharply to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's remarks regarding the party's manifesto, accused the ‘ancestors’ of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of ‘supporting the British and the Muslim League’ and not the country during the freedom struggle.

On social media post X, Kharge said, “Modi-Shah's political and ideological ancestors supported the British and Muslim League against the Indians in the Freedom Struggle”.

Slamming the Prime Minister and Home Minister for invoking the Muslim League against the Congress manifesto, the Congress President said, “Even today, they are invoking the Muslim League against the 'Congress Nyay Patra' guided and shaped according to the aspirations, needs and demands of common Indians”.

He alleged that ‘Modi-Shah's ideological ancestors’ in 1942 had opposed Mahatma Gandhi's call for "Quit India", which was the movement chaired by Maulana Azad.

Kharge claimed that Shyama Prasad Mukherjee formed his governments in Bengal, Sindh and NWFP in the 1940s in coalition with the Muslim League.

“Did Shyama Prasad Mukherjee not write to the then British Governor about how the Quit India movement of 1942 can be "combated" and how the Congress should be suppressed? And for this, he said that "Indians have to trust the British,"? the AICC President wrote.

The Rajya Sabha MP said that Modi, Shah their nominated president were spreading lies about the Congress manifesto.

He said that due to fear of losing this election, the RSS was remembering its “best friend, the Muslim League”.

“There is a stink of RSS in Modi ji's speeches, BJP's electoral graph is plunging day by day, therefore the RSS has started remembering its best friend-the Muslim League ! There is only one truth - The Congress's Nyay Patra reflects the hopes and aspirations of 140 crore people of India. Their combined strength will put an end to Modi ji's 10 years of INJUSTICE!,” Kharge said.

Congress Manifesto a replica of Jinnah's Muslim League agenda: Nadda

Taking a dig at Congress' Manifesto BJP President JP Nadda alleged that it is difficult to know whether it is the manifesto of Congress or Muslim League.

In a statement, JP Nadda said, "The Congress manifesto is a blueprint for division, a blatant replica of Jinnah's Muslim League agenda"

"By prioritizing appeasement politics over national unity, the Congress seeks to perpetuate division. India has rejected such divisive politics before and will do so again" Nadda alleged.

The Congress manifesto was released in New Delhi on April 5th, focuses on job creation, and infrastructure development, and also features the party's promise of a caste census.

The manifesto also promises the right to apprenticeship, a legal guarantee for MSP, and passing a constitutional amendment to raise the 50 percent cap on reservations for SCs, STs, and OBCs.

The BJP President said, the BJP stands firm against this dangerous path to polarization and remains committed to inclusive governance for all.

"Congress will have to give an explanation of the way it has spoken about appeasement and reservation in its manifesto" he further added.

On Saturday, April 6th, Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his rally at Ajmer termed the Congress manifesto a "bundle of lies" and alleged that the document was full of ideas of Muslim League and leftists.

"Every page of the Congress manifesto is a glimpse of disintegrating India. The manifesto of Congress reflects the thinking of the Muslim League at the time of independence. Congress wants to impose the ideas of the then Muslim League on today's India," said Prime Minister Modi.
