Diamond Harbour:BJP leader of a Mandal committee Shaktipada Sardar was hacked to death last night by some unidentified miscreants while returning home after closing his shop at Mandir Bazar in South 24 Parganas, police and party sources said today.The deceased was the Mandal committee president of his locality at Dhanurhat under Mandir Bazar area.
The crime happened when Sardar, who was returning home after closinghis shop, was stopped by some youth at Netaji More and stabbed several times.His cries attracted local villagers, who saw Sardar groaning and bleeding profusely.The assailants, however, managed to escape in dark.
The villagers took the injured to Diamond Harbour hospital, which referred him to a Kolkata hospital, but Sardar died due to loss of blood on the way.The local BJP leadership accused the Trinamool Congress of the crime, which was denied by the state ruling party.
The BJP claimed that since the deceased had switched over to the saffron brigade from the ruling party and did good job in the last Panchayat poll at Mandir Bazar, hebecame a target of the ruling regime.
TMC block president Aloke Bhattacharyee attributed the killing to the infighting in the BJP.Mandir Bazar police station began an investigation today with no arrest made so far in this connection.(UNI)
