Mumbai: Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti is being celebrated here on Saturday across the state by the people. A special programme was organized at Shivneri fort in Pune district, official sources said. Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari paid floral tributes to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj on the occasion of his birth anniversary here. Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, Ministers Aaditya Thackeray, Dilip Walse Patil, and other leaders also participated in the celebrations on the occasion of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti.
Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi remembered the Maratha warrior king on his birth anniversary and said that his outstanding leadership and emphasis on social welfare have been inspiring people for generations. Chhatrapati Shivaji was born on February 19, 1630, at Shivneri Fort in Pune. Shivaji Jayanti is celebrated across the country, and especially in Maharashtra to mark the birth anniversary of the great Maratha ruler 'Shivaji Maharaj,'. Maharashtra Navnirma Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray inaugurated its Chandiwali area party office on the occassion. After inaugurating the office, he appealed to the party workers to celebrate Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti as a festival and it should be celebrated as per ''tithi' not just as a date on the calender.(UNI)
