Congratulations! India desires peace and stability in region free of terror: PM Modi to new Pakistan PM Shehbaz Sharif

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated new Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and said that India desires peace and stability in a region free of terror so that both countries can ensure the well being and prosperity of their people.

In a tweet, the PM said: “Congratulations to H. E. Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on his election as the Prime Minister of Pakistan. India desires peace and stability in a region free of terror, so that we can focus on our development challenges and ensure the well-being and prosperity of our people.”

Following the ouster of Imran Khan from the post of Pakistan Prime Minister, the Opposition's joint candidate Shehbaz Sharif was on Monday elected as the country's 23rd prime minister.

The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) chief received 174 votes. (UNI)
