Puducherry: Lakshmi, the elephant at the famous Manakula Vinayagar Temple here will soon be back.
It may be noted that on a complaint from PETA (People for the Ethnic Treatment of Animals), Lakshmi was taken to the Krishi Vigayan Kendra at Kurumambet near here to get a forest environment.
Several Hindu organizations protested this and demanded that the elephant should be at the temple to bless the devotees.Legislators Anbazhagan and Lakshminarayanan had threatened to organize agitations.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister V Narayanasamy in a note to the Manakula VinayagarDevasthanam on Thursday maintained that the elephant was taken to the KVK for rejuvenation by the forest department and now the animal is fine and certified by the veterinary doctors.
However, the forest department officials suggested that the elephant should be kept in a more wider area and the temple authorities are making arrangements for the same.
Mr Narayanasamy also informed that the Devasthanam authorities could take custody of the elephant.(UNI)
