Indian Navy commander Abhilash Tomy rescued from Indian ocean after 3 days

New Delhi: Indian Navy sailor Commander Abhilash Tomy was rescued on Monday after three days of treacherous seas in the Indian Ocean.The Indian Navy on Twitter said, "Tomy rescued safely."
He is safe and conscious and has been shifted to a French vessel, an official said.The officer was competing in a nonstop, 30,000 mile solo circumnavigation as part of the 2018 Golden Globe Race (GGR) when his boat was demasted.
 
His back was severely injured rendering him immobile.'Thuriya', his boat,  was damaged in the storm about 1,900 nautical miles from Perth, Australia.
 
The Australian Rescue Coordination Centre at Canberra was coordinating the rescue mission in cooperation with many agencies, including the Australian Defence Department and the Indian Navy.
 
The Indian Navy had deployed its P-8I surveillance aircraft to as part of the rescue mission, officials said.(UNI)
