New Delhi: Hadiya, a Kerala woman at the centre of the religious conversion row, was taken back to Coimbatore on Tuesday, a day after the Supreme Court allowed her to resume her medical studies in Salem. She flew from Indira Gandhi International airport in a private air carrier at 1320 hrs along with four police personnel, including two women. The Kerala police will take Hadiya from Coimbatore to Salem by road. She will be given the same hostel facilities as other students though she will have a strong security cover by Tamil Nadu police.

Hadiya’s parents, who accompanied her to Supreme Court also returned back to Kochi by a flight at 1435 hrs.On Monday, the Supreme Court had rejected Hadiya’s request to go with her husband. Instead the Court asked her to continue her studies and directed the NIA to continue its investigation on alleged forcible conversion.

Her parents had alleged that Hadiya was indoctrinate for accepting Islam by some organisations which were recruiting people for sending them to Syria. They also alleged that her husband has links with radical elements. Earlier, the Kerala High Court had nullified Hadiya’s marriage with Shafin Jahan, and sent her back to her parents. Hadiya claimed she was under house arrest at her parents home.

Mr Jahan had challenged the High Court order nullifying his marriage in the apex court. However in the first hearing, the Supreme Court asked NIA to investigate the conversion allegations. And, Hadiya was told to appear before it on November 27 to present her views on her marriage and conversion to Islam. (UNI)
