Haryana Assembly election: 61 pc voter turnout till 5 pm

Around 61 percent of voting was recorded till 5 pm in the Assembly election in Haryana on Saturday.The ruling BJP is seeking a third successive term and the Congress aims to return to power after 10 years.

According to the data received from the Election Commission till 1700 hours, Mewat district recorded the highest polling of 68.28 percent and Gurugram the lowest of 49.97 percent.

Apart from this, 62.26 percent voting was recorded in Ambala, 63.06 percent in Bhiwani, 58.10 percent in Charkhi Dadri, 51.28 percent in Faridabad, 67.05 percent in Fatehabad, 64.16 percent in Hisar, 60.52 percent in Jhajjar, 66.02 percent in Jind, 62.53 percent in Kaithal, 60.42 percent in Karnal, 65.55 percent in Kurukshetra, 65.76 percent in Mahendragarh, 67.79 percent in Palwal, 54.71 percent in Panchkula, 60.52 percent in Panipat, 60.91 percent in Rewari, 60.56 percent in Rohtak, 65.37 percent in Sirsa, 56.69 percent in Sonipat and 67.93 percent in Yamunanagar district.

Haryana Chief Electoral Officer Pankaj Agarwal said a total of 1,031 candidates, including 930 men and 101 women, are in the fray. Among these candidates, 464 independent candidates are also trying their luck.

The counting of votes will take place on October 8 along with Jammu and Kashmir and the election process will be completed on October 10.(UNI)
